Before you play

Come ready to rally.

A practical guide to what you need, how sessions work, and how we make every game welcoming.

What to bring

  • Bring your own badminton racquet and a filled water bottle.
  • Check your league details to confirm whether shuttlecocks are provided for the session.
  • Keep personal belongings together and away from courts, walkways, and emergency exits.

What to wear

  • Non-marking indoor court shoes are required. You cannot play without appropriate footwear.
  • Wear comfortable athletic clothing that allows you to move safely.
  • Eye protection is strongly recommended for every player.

How play works

  • Choose the level that honestly reflects your current game. Reach out to us at info@onthecourts.ca if you are uncertain of your level.
  • Share court time fairly, follow the session rotation, and avoid back-to-back games when others are waiting.
  • The player closest to where the shuttle lands usually makes the call. If there is doubt, replay the point or award it to your opponent.

Play with respect

  • Bring a positive attitude and be willing to play with everyone, including players who are still developing their skills.
  • Encourage others, offer coaching only when it is welcomed, and thank your partner and opponents after every game.
  • Stay aware of active courts and other players whenever you move through the gym.

Keeping sessions safe and welcoming

While a competitive spirit is welcome, OTC is committed to a safe, respectful, and engaging community. The OTC representative responsible for a session may respond to unsafe or disrespectful conduct, including asking a player to leave. The OTC Committee may review the incident and take further action, up to and including suspending or revoking membership without a refund.
