Players' Etiquette

All players must read and abide by OTC's Players' Etiquette.

  1. Attitude: Competitive spirit is encouraged, but keep in mind we are all here for fun and exercise. Be respectful and encouraging of others, both on and off the courts.

  2. Be courteous: Thank your partner and opponents after each game. It is customary to shake hands, fist bump or touch racquets (gently) with the other players every game to thank them for the game.

  3. Share the court: Be fair to your fellow players by allowing everyone a turn on the courts and refraining from playing back-to-back games. At OTC, we encourage members to play with everyone else, not just the friends you came with. Who knows, you may find your next new friend on your court!

  4. Judge fairly: The player closest to where the birdie lands is usually the one to make the call. If you are not sure, you can ask your opponents, replay the point or award the point to your opponent.

  5. Disruptions: While it is commendable to give tips and tricks to new and experienced players alike, on-court coaching can cause delays and disruptions to the rotation of players. If the advice is welcomed, please do so on the sidelines (off the courts). Similarly, for the safety of all players on and off the court, please be mindful of where you are walking while on the gym floor.

If a player is found to have violated the Players' Etiquette set out above, the OTC representative in charge at the time of the incident will have authoritative discretion on the action to be taken, including the removal of the player(s) from the premises. The incident will then be reviewed by the OTC Committee where further action may be taken.
